Our Head Coach Fatih Tekke shared his thoughts following the Galatasaray match in the Ziraat Turkish Cup Final.

Coach Tekke said:
“First of all, I am a player who has a place in this club’s history. I am currently the head coach, and as a supporter myself, I am deeply sorry that we have disappointed our fans. I feel the emotions they are going through, and even more intensely. As for my evaluation of the match, in my opinion, it was practically over at the beginning of the second half, or rather, at the beginning of both halves. In the first 10 minutes, there was a mistake in marking, even though we had been working on that for 10 days. It was a small error, but it cost us dearly.

In my view, Batagov, who may have been one of our best-performing players in both matches, got injured, and we had to start the second half with Okay. Then, right in the first attack, we conceded another unfortunate goal. So the second half effectively started with a 2-0 score. After that, we made some changes, bringing in players who could run behind the defense more and press higher up the pitch. These choices can be debated. And we had a clear chance in the first half when the score was 1-0. We needed to finish that.

So, one of the things that upset me in terms of our play is that we lost both matches through long balls and second balls. This is something I absolutely cannot accept.

I don’t think we were outplayed. In these types of matches, the number of high-performing players on the team needs to be greater. We lacked that a bit today. We had a valuable advantage, and we really wanted to win the cup, but we couldn’t succeed. We all need to accept that. We have to go through this disappointment together. Since the day I arrived, we’ve been spending serious time and energy with our president planning for next season, aiming to build a stronger squad to compete against strong teams like this.

This season is ending like this. There are three games left, and frankly, we have no claim left in the league. As I said before, I will likely give more playing time to those who haven’t had many minutes so far. For the construction of next season, we will work harder, and unlike this season, where I said my team had to play slow, we will do everything we can to play fast and dynamic football. We will be very meticulous about this.

That’s my summary. Once again, I want to say how sorry I am. I apologize to our fans, to my family, on behalf of myself, my staff, and my players. I believe we should have pushed harder.”
